ASTM A182 Blind Flange

ASTM A182 blind flange help to terminate the ends of piping systems. The main purpose of using blind flanges is to close off the unused portion of pipe or nozzle. Blind flanges consist of holes around its perimeter and the gasket of the sealing ring is machined into the mating surface.

The ASTM A182 blind flanges manufactured by us are ideal for high temperature and pressure environments. This flange is widely used in various industries, such as gas, oil, petrochemical, etc. One of the best features of these blind flanges is that they can be easily assembled and disassembled.

Analysis of three mechanical properties of A182 flange

ASTM A182 blind flange includes three materials: alloy steel, stainless steel and duplex stainless steel. Due to the different materials, their mechanical properties are different.

Alloy Steel

MATERIAL T.S (MPA) Y.S (MPA) EL % R/A % HARDNESS
ASTM A182 F5 485 min 275 min 20 min 35 min 143-217
ASTM A182 F9 585 min 380 min 20 min 40 min 179-217
ASTM A182 F12 CL1 415 min 220 min 20 min 45 min 121-174
ASTM A182 F11 CL1 415 min 205 min 20 min 45 min 121-174

Alloy steel has good toughness, that is, it has the ability to absorb energy and resist fracture. Through appropriate alloy ratio and heat treatment process, alloy steel can still maintain a certain toughness in harsh environments such as low temperature.

Stainless steel

MATERIAL T.S (MPA) Y.S (MPA) EL % R/A %
ASTM A182 F304 515 min 205 min 30 min 50 min
ASTM A182 F316 515 min 205 min 30 min 50 min

The yield strength of stainless steel varies depending on the specific grade. For example, the yield strength of common 304 stainless steel is about 205MPa. It is widely used in some structures that require a certain strength and corrosion resistance.

Duplex Stainless Steel

MATERIAL T.S (MPA) Y.S (MPA) EL % R/A %
ASTM A182 F51 620 min 450 min 25 min 45 min
ASTM A182 F53 800 min 550 min 25 min 15 min
ASTM A182 F55 750-895 550min 25min 45min
ASTM A182 F60 655min 450min 25min 45min

In ASTM A182 blind flanges, duplex stainless steel has a higher hardness and better wear resistance. In some occasions that require wear resistance and corrosion resistance, duplex stainless steel can resist wear while preventing erosion by corrosive media
