 What is Blind Flange

Blind flange is a solid flange the purpose of these is to block off a section of pipe. Unlike other types of flange that are used to connect pipes or components, it is used to close off a pipe or an opening in a system. They are serve a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of piping systems, preventing leaks, and enabling safe pressure testing.

Similar to other type flanges, blind flange has mounting holes around the perimeter and the gasket sealing rings are machined into the mating surface. The difference is that a blind flange has no opening for fluids to pass through.

ASME B16.5 Forged Blind Flange

ASME B16.5 is American standard for manufacturing cast and forged steel pipe flange. This standard included flanges and flange fittings made from cast or forged materials, and blind flanges and certain reducing flanges made from cast, forged, or plate materials. Also included in this standard are requirements and recommendations regarding flange bolting, flange gaskets, and flange joints. B16.5 cover the dimension, tolerance, weight of the flanges.

Sealing Face for Blind Flange

The raised face (RF) is the most common type of flange facing used. These flanges are widely used in oil and gas pipelines.

RF Blind Flange

Flat face (FF) flanges are similar to the RF flanges. But they do not have the raised area like the RF flange. Instead, the whole surface is flat.

FF BL Flange

A Ring type joint flange(RTJ) is a machined metallic ring with a deep groove cut into its face. This groove rests a metal ring which gets compressed when the connecting bolts of the flange are tightened.

Face Finish

However, the common objective of any type of flange face finish is to create the desired roughness on the face of a flange to ensure a strong match between the flange, the gasket, and the mating flange thus provide a high-quality seal.

The roughness are different for different face finish. It is available for various gasket for different roughness.

Surface Types Maximum Roughness Value
Ring-type joint flanges 63 µin AARH (1.6 µm AARH)
Spiral wound gaskets 125 to 250 µin AARH (3.2 to 6.3 µm AARH)
Soft gaskets. 250 to 500 µin AARH (6.3 to 12.6 µm AARH)
Tongue and Groove 125 µ.in. or 3.2 µ.m AARH

Material for Forged Steel Flange

We are specialized in various steel flanges, the materials including carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel.

Carbon Steel ASTM A105 / A105N, ASTM A350 LF2/LF3, ASTM A694 F42 / 46 / 56 / 60 / 65, P235GH, P265GH, P280GH, P355GH
Alloy Steel ASTM A182 F11 / 12 / 5 / 9 / 91 / 92
Stainless Steel ASTM A182 F304/304L/304H, 316/316L, 321, 310S, 317,347,904L, 1.4404, 1.4437.
Duplex Stainless Steel ASTM A182 F51, F53, F55

Carbon steel flange, that is, the body material is carbon steel plate or end flange connection. Stainless steel flange, also called SS flange, it means the material of flange is stainless steel. Common material standards and Grades are ASTM A182 Grade F304/L and F316/L. It used in more industries than carbon steel. Stainless steel has better resistant performances on corrosion environment and always provides with a good appearance.

Advantages of Forged Blind Flange

There is no hole in the center of the blind flange, so it can seal the pipeline. Without blind flanges, shutdowns and repairs would be incredibly difficult to handle. Stainless steel blind flange have the following advantages.

Resistant to corrosion and staining

Low maintenance

Bright familiar luster

Steel Strength
